I love this place so much! There are very few places that you can find great Chinese cuisine in the DC metro area, and Peter Chang is one of them. It's good enough to be in NYC. If you go with a large group, they have the lazy Susan tables to spin around the food. They serve a duck spring roll that is to die for. One of their hidden treasures, the eggs and scallion fried rice, is just $8; and my kids are always amazed by the bubble pancakes. There are a few dishes that are delicious but you need a good size party because of how rich the plates are; one of these dishes is the pork belly, great for 5-8 people to try a small piece but too much for one person to eat it. Needing a vegetarian dish? Go for the dragon eggplant. The stir fried baby bok choy is also delish. Pescatarian? SEAFOOD VERMICELLI POT W. MUSHROOM PASTE is the dish for you. You will find a dish for everyone. I can't wait to visit this amazing gem in McLean soon.
This is a great Chinese restaurant that has authentic Chinese food. They have spicy and non/spicy dishes. Both taste equally impressive. I particularly like their spicy dishes because they are not too as greasy as other restaurants' spicy dishes. Service is friendly and great. The ambience is casual and warm. The best Peter Chang in this area.
We ordered a half of their Beijing duck. There was nothing of the duck leftover between two of us - not a shred of meat nor a single pancake. Their pancakes were super thin and soft - that is a distinguishing feature of their duck. The stir fried pea shoots were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of garlic, and perfectly seasoned. The Beef Chow Fan Noodles were also very good. We also got the Sesame Oil Tofu Skin Salad appetizer, which was also lightly seasoned and not too salty or oily. The interior seating is contemporary and very clean. The service was excellent. We came for lunch on a weekday and were seated immediately.
Always seems to be busy, and its no wonder why. The food here is simply good. Its located on the lower floor of a two story restaurant setup, and feels like an upscale Chinese restaurant. Service is always friendly, and honestly most of the patrons are too- my kids ended up playing a game with another tables kids while waiting for food. Evey dish I've had there has been great- the scallion pancakes are always in demand, and the different chicken and beef dishes always deliver on flavor. Also highly recommend the purple rice. Its always been a great meal for us.
Went in for a quick Sunday lunch and it was excellent! We shared 3 dishes and were quite satisfied by all of the flavors and textures. Our go to at any Chinese restaurant is the string beans. These were nice and spicy and crisp. Szechuan peppercorns possibly added was a delicious surprise. We also ordered a dry pot combination dish which was loaded either many fresh vegetables and had lovely pungent flavors. Yummy. The service was fast and the ambiance was quiet which allowed for easy conversations. Excellent meal!
We recommend making a reservation here. Pretty busy. Food: Wow, we order several dishes from the Peking duck, pork string beans, ginger brenzino, honey walnut shrimp, beef chowfun, and soup dumplings. Food comes out hot and ready, they were all seasoned incredibly well, not salty at all, meat were all tender, prawns were massive but perfectly sweet, and the highlight was the duck. Way better than Peking gourmet. Ambiance: The restaurant was clean and spotless, it makes you feel way better on what you're consuming. Service: They were so attentive to us and made sure we always had water, room for all of our food and even how they prepped our food to go was top notch. It was truly a great experience for us and the workers here are super kind. We will be returning!
Came here with a few friends for dinner. There are so many vegetarian options here, I don't think i've ever been to a Chinese restaurant with this many vegetarian options before. We got a few appetizers, the bubble pancake, tofu skin, and vegan dandan noodles. All were good but the noodles were definitely my favorite. For main meals, we got an eggplant dish and some fried rice. The fried rice wasn't anything too special but the eggplant sauce was so flavorful. There were also a few drink options which were reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is decently sized but still pretty cozy. The staff was super friendly and checked in on us pretty frequently and wasn't rushing us out the door when we finished, which was nice. Would definitely come here again as the menu is pretty huge.
Ambiance: 10 Service: 10 Food: 10 I love Chinese food, but sometimes it can be quite oily or too saucy. Recently, I discovered Peter Chang in McLean, and it has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat. From the outside, the restaurant appears modest, but inside, it's much larger than expected with a bright and modern motif--a refreshing change from the typical dark hues of many Chinese restaurants. I consider this style of food as elevated Chinese cuisine, perfect for those who appreciate high-quality, delicious dishes. It's great for a date night or for taking out your entire family or a group of friends. If it's your first time, like it was for us, the extensive menu can be a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, the friendly staff are more than happy to make recommendations. After a long day of travel, I was craving something savory but not too oily or spicy, so I started with a cup of pork wonton soup. The broth was soothing to my upset stomach, and the pork wontons were delicious. I could have been happy just with my soup. However, since my husband was with me, we also ordered the sizzling prawns and scallops with chives. Although the dish didn't come out sizzling as its name suggests, it did not disappoint. The scallops and prawns were cooked to perfection, and the chives (or leeks) were a perfect combination with the seafood. We paired this dish with stir-fried baby bok choy, enhanced with garlic flavors and cooked just right. Many restaurants tend to overcook their veggies, but Peter Chang gets it just right. The food was so great that I decided to take a chance with my upset stomach and order something with a bit more spice: the (not so) sizzling chicken with mixed peppers and basil. Oh boy, was it spicy! The dish featured jalapeño and Thai red peppers, and I highly recommend eating it with rice. If you like spicy food, this dish is simply heavenly, offering a great mix of heat, savory, salty, and a splash of acid. We will definitely be coming back. I'm surprised this restaurant isn't ranked higher because if you enjoy good food and excellent service, you can't go wrong with Peter Chang.
One of Peter Chang's newer outposts in the DMV region. We came here after learning that reservations at Mama Chang were full. Food is quite good and up to standards, bordering on high end. Portions are reasonable but not generous. Not all the staff speaks Chinese, but they were very friendly and helpful when we requested hot water. If you come here with a big group, I think it would be helpful to have a round table with a lazy Susan in the middle so that everyone can access dishes, rather than push 2 rectangular tables together because it becomes a bit tedious to constantly pass the dishes around. However, this restaurant is overall really family friendly.
